“Why I write” is an academic text because… (last version)

This text written by George Orwell is a very good and detailed description of the reasons that he had to write; many people may think this is just a common text and they wouldn’t consider it as academic text and would say it is an autobiography. Well, I say that this is an essay because it has its structure.

The author starts with an introduction, in this part he describes his childhood and how he got involved in this, then he proposes a thesis, which is why he writes, then gives some arguments in order to support it, he uses historical facts and also he listed a set of possible motives to write.

At the end he has a conclusion, he makes summary of his arguments, all this in order to reinforce his thesis. But we need to take into account that he gives arguments to explain why he writes, may be this is why people do not consider it as an academy text. However, it does not make this essay less valuable. The author is an authority, which also strengthen this text. And the most important these kinds of text are made to convince people, express ideas and defend opinions and that’s exactly what he tries in this essay; convince us of his reasons to write.
