AN EXPENSIVE UTOPIA: HOW FAR ARE WE FROM CHILE? (Alan) (2 version)

During the last weeks Chilean students have been marching through Santiago streets as a way to protest against private policies of education, nothing far from our own situation where government tries to implement a model of an "educational credit benefit" turning education into an expensive utopia if you don't want to get an eternal debt.

“In Chile, the average monthly minimum wage is $385, while the average monthly college tuition costs $485. Upon graduating, Chilean students are on average saddled with $40,000 in debt.” says Anna Lekas Miller from the electronic newspaper The Nation.

In this sense, education becomes an expensive utopia really far from our wishes to study, but what about if we would like to go to U.S? Well, “The tuition cost in USA varies from $5000 to $30000 per year. About $9000 for resident students and $20000 for international students.” says Jim Sheng from his webpage Hubpages.

So for a mid-class Colombian student to study becomes a luxury or as I already said an expensive utopia that who knows what it tries to get.
