As usually, governments are insensitive, they do not care the huge effort working-class makes neither for surviving “the crisis”, which I think it has made up in order to put on weight politician pockets, nor for keeping their sons in the university. However, I do not understand how do not masses perceive the education as a right? They do not realize a public servant is obligated to do some works, so people have not to be grateful for something already paid. Public education is an example of that. But the idea of Public Higher Education differs between people who lives in the same society and under the same system, paradoxically is the lack of education or information which makes people ignorant.
In Colombia, important changes and transformations have to take place in the pedagogical field seemed from a critical thinking. I recognize the importance of professor’s role have had in the last decade, encouraging us to be critics in our way of thinking a possible free, accessible public university of quality. They have assumed an inexhaustible fight in defense of Public
education as a result Colombian students could defeat up until now, the terrible idea of privatizing public universities. But that is one of the many problems public universities face: the access is another controversial issue; in Chile only 45% of young have access to higher education, in Colombia 32%.
Although Cuba has a privileged system in higher education, the average of young who enter to universities is only 35%. Cubans know the power of education to resolve all problems, but the requirements still being a barrier for those who had not finished a pre-university course or are over 25 years old, as well as presenting three obligatory tests in which the student must obtain a minimum score of 70. I suppose we are in the right way, but we have a long way to go before we achieve an educational system with equality and quality.
