Thinking in writing is far away to be a representation of language in a textual medium through symbols; particularly writing is a way to preserve my ideas at the same time to express who I am. But writing in a foreign language is a very different way to see the world and give it a meaning through words. For me writing in Spanish is like swimming. In the same way as water makes me feel lighter, I feel comfortable writing in Spanish. I can express myself better of a spontaneous way because I feel that I have a range of words, I am spoilt for choice.
While writing in English it’s like teaching. First of all, you have to organize the lessons you will teach and will make sure they are coherent. When I write I need to organize in a sequence the ideas to develop in every paragraph, paying attention to spelling, grammar and other aspects like punctuation in order to make comprehensible the text for the reader. One way or another (writing in a foreign language or in my mother tongue) writing implies thinking in the other, being respectful in his integrity and his point of view, that entails a great responsibility.
